Leeds employee hails Jesse Marsch ‘transformation’ as new details emerge
Noel Whelan has lauded Jesse Marsch’s “transformation” at Leeds United after their “clinical” nature returned against Watford.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the performance during the 3-0 win at Vicarage Road was “a breath of fresh air”.
Rodrigo, Raphinha, and Jack Harrison were all on the scoresheet as Leeds United pulled nine points clear of the drop zone with their victory over Watford on Saturday (9 April).
Marsch has won three of his six Premier League games in charge of the Whites since succeeding Marcelo Bielsa in February.
As per FBRef, Leeds United have recorded an average of 1.5 expected goals per game since his appointment.
In Bielsa’s final six games at the helm, his side could muster an average of only 1.1 xG and picked up one point from a possible 18.
Whelan hailed the change – insisting the previous record “simply wasn’t good enough”.
“This has been coming for a while,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“We kept talking about percentages, and chances created – our record in front of goal simply wasn’t good enough.
“But I think we saw against Watford that our clinical, cutting-edge game was back again.
“Rodrigo, Raphinha, and Harrison all getting involved and getting on the scoresheet. It’s exactly what you want.
“To be that clinical was a real breath of fresh air because it has been coming for a while. We’ve finally got that ruthless edge back, and it’s thanks to Jesse Marsch’s transformation of the side.”

Leeds United sit 16th in the Premier League with six games remaining.
Marsch’s next task is a trip to Crystal Palace on 25 April.
