Leeds fans erupt at ‘infuriating’ star after what he did in draw vs Sunderland: ‘Ridiculously pointless’

Leeds United put further daylight between themselves and the bottom three as they drew 1-1 away at Sunderland on Sunday.

Daniel Farke’s side turned in a spirited display against their fellow newly-promoted club, and they produced an impressive fightback in the second half to take a point back to West Yorkshire.

Sunderland have lost several players to AFCON in recent games, but Simon Adingra was left out by Ivory Coast, and he was on hand to curl home the opener for the Black Cats in the first half.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin then continued his recent hot streak by sliding in an equaliser shortly after the half-time interval to earn his team a share of the points.

The Whites have looked resurgent in recent weeks, but their fans couldn’t hide their frustration during the game, despite a renewed hope of Premier League survival.

Leeds fans question the thinking of Brenden Aaronson

Brenden Aaronson has lacked consistency for Leeds since his arrival in the summer of 2023, and that has often prompted frustration towards him from the fans.

The American had three goal involvements to his name in 2025-26 prior to Sunday’s game, and he added another assist to that tally with an invited cross for Calvert-Lewin’s equaliser.

However, his involvement in the goal wasn’t enough to save the winger from criticism from his own supporters, who picked fault with his actions in the build-up to Sunderland’s goal.

Leeds briefly won the ball on the edge of their box before losing it for Granit Xhaka to slip a pass through to Adingra, all of which occurred while Aaronson was bolting up the pitch to try and launch a counter-attack.

The Whites faithful were quick to jump on the incident on social media, as several supporters took to X to share their frustration.

One fan branded the attacker’s run as “ridiculously pointless” and joked that he almost ended up at Newcastle’s St James’ Park home.

There were also plenty of supporters who strongly questioned Aaronson’s thinking in neglecting his defensive duties so quickly.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal produces remarkable Whites stat

Calvert-Lewin has been excellent for Leeds of late, and he continued his fine recent run of form with yet another goal on Sunday.

The frontman now has seven goals in his last six Premier League games, and that rich vein of form has been the driving force behind his team’s upturn in results.

His latest strike will have had an added element of satisfaction for Farke and his staff, as every single Leeds player touched the ball before the striker eventually applied the finish, according to Opta via their X account.

It was a free-flowing move from the visitors, and arguably one of the goals of the season across the entire league so far.

Calvert-Lewin applied the all-important finish, but it was a goal that highlighted the newfound belief across the Leeds squad.
