Leeds Exclusive: La Liga expert shares intriguing insight on Rodrigo struggles
Leeds United forward Rodrigo Moreno is not a number nine and should only be used as a number 10 or out wide, according to Kevin Campbell.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal striker, who jets off to Spain on a weekly basis to work as a pundit for La Liga TV said that the 29-year-old operates best when he can “see the defence and run onto balls”.
Rodrigo came under fire for his performance as a central striker in Sunday’s shock FA Cup exit at Crawley Town.
The club-record £27million signing failed to make a meaningful impact on the game and was hauled off at half-time and replaced by Jack Harrison.
Marcelo Bielsa has primarily utilised the Spain international in-behind Patrick Bamford this season and his 17 appearances across all competitions have yielded three goals.
When asked by Football Insider if he believed Rodrigo was capable of playing in the Premier League as a central striker, Campbell said: “Number nine is not his position.

“He is more of a number 10 or a wide-forward.
“When you are a number nine, with back to goal, it is a different game. Defenders are nipping at your ankles and being more physical with you. That is not Rodrigo’s game, he likes to see the defence and run onto balls.
“He is not a number nine. He is best in that number 10 position.”
