Matt Grimes is in line to make only his second league start for Leeds in their Championship clash against Reading on Tuesday night.
The Yorkshire giants are badly hit by injury and suspension in the key central midfield battleground against Jaap Stam’s side.
First-choice pair Liam Bridcutt and Eunan O’Kane are in race against time bids to be fit for the Elland Road showdown, while Kalvin Phillips is suspended in the wake of his sending-off for handball in Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Brighton.
It is inconceivable that Bridcutt would start after three months on the sidelines with a fractured metatarsal, and if O’Kane has not recovered from a groin injury in time, then Grimes is set to make the starting XI and partner Ronaldo Vieira in central midfield.
Grimes, who replaced Hadi Sacko at half-time against Brighton, could be one of two midfielders recalled to the side along with wide man Stuart Dallas.
This could mean Sacko dropping down to the substitute’s bench after a notable drop in his standards in recent weeks.
Roofe is set to remain in the playmaker role in the continued absence of Pablo Hernandez, while Souleymane Doukara’s form is also likely to keep him in the side.
At the back, manager Garry Monk is almost certain to stick with his regular back five if Pontus Jansson shows no ill effects from Brighton after leaving the pitch late on.
