Leeds expected 4-2-3-1 v Wigan: Seven summer signings to start

By Will Butcher

Leeds boss Garry Monk is expected to name an unchanged side to face Championship strugglers Wigan on Tuesday night.

The likes of Pablo Hernandez, Pontus Jansson and Hadi Sacko are all expected to start against Gary Caldwell’s relegation threatened Latics, as they look to secure a sixth win in eight league and cup encounters.

Despite a poor display during Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Derby, Alex Mowatt is expected to be given another chance on Tuesday night on the left side of midfield.

Stuart Dallas has been ruled out by Monk to feature against Wigan, so Mowatt will be joined by one-time Spain international Pablo Hernandez.

Sporting Lisbon loanee Sacko will be joined by New Zealand international Chris Wood in attack. Ronaldo Vieira will be made to wait once again for a return to the first team, as Kalvin Phillips continues alongside Eunan O’Kane.

New signings Rob Green, Luke Ayling, Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley will all look to build on their impressive starts to life in Yorkshire, which has seen them combine with Player of the Year Charlie Taylor in conceding just four goals in seven games.

A win for Leeds could see them move to within one point of sixth placed Birmingham, as Monk looks to return the Yorkshire giants to the Premier League following their 12-year absence.

In other Leeds team news, Ian Holloway has given his prediction on Tuesday night’s Championship encounter.
