Leeds fans all say the same about re-signing Patrick Bamford after Sheffield United heroics
Leeds United supporters hardly recognise former striker Patrick Bamford since his move to Sheffield United in November.
Bamford left Elland Road upon his contract expiring, bringing an end to his seven years with the Whites, having struggled to gain any amount of fitness to be included in squads.
There was plenty of speculation around where he could play next, with Bamford training with Coventry City, but he finally found a home at Bramall Lane, at least until January.
Fans from all around were baffled by the decision, given his history with Chris Wilder, but with five goals already next to his name, some of those at Elland Road are now having regrets, it would appear.
Leeds United ‘shocking’ for letting Patrick Bamford go
Within 15 minutes of the Blades’ game against Wrexham on Friday, 26 December, the 32-year-old already had a brace to his name, including quite a spectacular acrobatic effort for the opener.
Watching their former striker at the SToK Cae Ras, one supporter watched on as Bamford turned “into Haaland”, with another calling the decision to let him leave over Joel Piroe “shocking”.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in incredible form for Leeds, but if both of them were available for Daniel Farke, there is no guessing where they might be in the Premier League table right now.
- @GlenH84: “Paying Bamford off instead of paying him to play when Leeds built a team that would have suited him. FFS 6 months with option for 1 year deal, anyone?”
- @InTheCheeseAtER: “As much as I dislike the Blunts, I can’t help but feel over the moon for Bamford. Keep knocking ’em in, lad. Get a decent move next month.”
- @ExpatTennisFan: “3-5-2 with DCL/Bamford upfront … anyone?”
What did Bamford say to the Leeds fans following his exit?
Despite receiving plenty of backlash, especially towards the end of his time in West Yorkshire as his injury issues intensified, he was extremely thankful to those who had supported him over the years.
He even admitted that his time at Elland Road, “at times, it’s been frustrating,” but looked back at his achievements with great fondness. He hasn’t spoken about a potential return, though.
At 32 years of age, Bamford is coming to the end of his career. There is no doubt about that. While he has been free of injuries with the Blades, he has only played a handful of games so far.
Fans at Bramall Lane have fallen completely in love with the striker, so once his contract expires, many will be hoping for new terms to be reached, rather than him finding yet another new club.
