Leeds fans all say the same thing about Joel Piroe after what they’ve seen

Leeds United fans have been left stunned after Joel Piroe scored from a set-piece routine in the friendly victory against Schalke 04.

The Dutchman fired in the second goal of a 2-0 win after a well-worked routine, with Joe Rothwell playing short to Georginio Rutter whose cross was turned in.

Set pieces had long since been a reliable source of goals at Elland Road, but Piroe’s strike meant Daniel Farke’s side have scored from two corners in their last two games.

This led to plenty of excitement amongst the fans who were surprised by their new-found set-piece ability and heaped praise on the team.

Many are suggesting a new outlet for scoring will provide them with a new dimension going into the Championship season in a boost to their promotion chances.

Leeds United fans stunned by what they saw v Schalke

Farke’s side scored just nine goals from corners last season, raising questions about the lack of threat from crossing situations.

However, there appears to have been progress made towards becoming more of a threat during pre-season with that work beginning to pay off.

Fans were stunned by their new-found threat from set-pieces with supporters expressing their surprise via social media.

Many supporters, meanwhile, directed their praise towards Piroe for his finish, claiming he could mount a charge for the Golden Boot this season.

The striker found the next 16 times in 53 appearances last time out, but is already being backed for a more impressive second season in White.

In other news, Wilfried Gnonto is now expected to start the season with Leeds.
