Leeds fans are all saying same thing about promotion after ‘unforgivable’ twist
Leeds United fans have admitted that they do not deserve an automatic promotion spot after Ipswich Town’s win against Coventry City on Tuesday night (30 April).
Kieran McKenna’s side secured a 2-1 away victory against the recent FA Cup semi-finalists to put them in the driving seat for automatic promotion to the Premier League at the expense of the Whites.
The win put them three points ahead of Daniel Farke’s third-place side, meaning Ipswich will have to lose their final game against Huddersfield Town while Leeds need to win their clash against Southampton to sneak into the top two.
The Yorkshire giants have been in dire form in recent weeks having picked up just four points in their last five games and their 4-0 thrashing against QPR on Friday (26 April) looks likely to have cost them an automatic return to the Premier League.
Leeds United ‘only have self to blame’ for promotion slip-up
Meanwhile, Ipswich have maintained their incredible form and look well-placed to secure back-to-back promotions and top-flight status for the first time in 24 years.
Most likely, Leeds will have to win the unpredictable Championship play-offs to secure their immediate return to the Premier League – but their historical record in end-of-season deciders does not bode well.
The Whites have failed to win all five of their appearances in EFL play-offs – most recently their semi-final defeat against Derby County back in 2019.
Supporters have taken to social media in the wake of the Tractor Boys’ win and are furious that Leeds “folded like a pack of cards” in the crucial late run-in.
