Leeds fans besiege Radrizzani with messages after Cellino ban

By Alex Stevens

Leeds fans besieged Andrea Radrizzani with Twitter messages after the FA announced that Massimo Cellino has been banned from all football activities for 18 months.

The ruling body revealed on its official website on Thursday afternoon that Elland Road owner Cellino will be suspended as a director of the club from 1 February, 2017.

He has also been fined £250,000 fine, and, in addition, Leeds have been slapped with a fine for the same amount.

Cellino, whose ban will run until October 2018, has already indicated to the FA that he intends to appeal against the ruling.

Supporters reacted angrily to the latest controversy to hit the club at a time when Garry Monk’s fourth-placed team is riding a crest of a wave and has feasible ambitions to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Behind the scenes, there is also the possibility of a takeover after Italian sports media mogul Radrizzani broke cover last week to reveal that he is in advanced talks to buy a 50 per cent stake in the Championship outfit.

A large section of supporters are keen for Radrizzani to tie up a deal with Cellino and take over the day-to-day running of the club.

Following the announcement of Cellino’s punishments, fans took to social media urging Radrizzani to press ahead with securing a stake in the Yorkshire giants.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

There is a clear sense among fans that the last roadblock to Radrizzani being a major stakeholder in the former Champions League club has now been removed.
