Leeds United fans on Twitter were blown away by the performance of centre-back Pontus Jansson in the 1-0 defeat to Birmingham at St Andrew’s on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Christiansen’s side saw their unbeaten run come to a shock end in the West Midlands when Jacques Maghoma’s 83rd minute goal saw the Championship basement boys earn three points to lift some of the pressure off manager Steve Cotterill.

Leeds looked unable to create anything noteworthy throughout the entire 90 minutes and it was perhaps a fair result in the end as Birmingham won by a slender margin.

Although it was an all-round poor performance by United, fans were thoroughly impressed by Jansson’s display in the heart of the defence.

One impressed supporter even claimed that Leeds can “expect bid of £100million” for the Sweden international, if Virgil van Dijk’s £75million price-tag is anything to go by.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Jansson has been ever-present for Leeds this season, making 22 appearances across all competitions and scoring two goals in the process.

The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 61, 24 December) has recently claimed that Southampton are interested in signing the 26-year-old defender in January as a replacement to Liverpool-bound van Dijk.

Andrea Radrizzani better hope that one fan was right about that £100million bid.

In other Leeds United news, this international goal machine has made an emphatic decision on interest from Elland Road as he prepares for a January transfer.
