Leeds fans braced for Phillips transfer 'hurt' amid agent's contract update - pundit
Frank McAvennie insists Leeds fans must understand if Kalvin Phillips swaps Elland Road for Old Trafford.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on the midfielder.
The Daily Star reported on 27 September that Manchester United have switched their attention from Declan Rice to Phillips.
However, Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 September that Leeds have opened new contract talks with the midfielder.
A Whites source has since updated this site and revealed Phillips is keen to put pen to paper on an extension before the end of the year.
Today (30 September) Phillips’ agent told the Telegraph’s John Percy he can only see “a positive outcome” from negotiations.

McAvennie has told Leeds fans they can’t blame Phillips if he does eventually leave Elland Road and join Manchester United.
“There haven’t been many to do it,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Cantona did it didn’t he, and of course Alan Smith. He was an idol there and he still went.
“The fact of the matter is, if you get the chance to go to Manchester United, you take it.
“If you want to win trophies and challenge at that top level then it’s a no brainer.
“It will hurt for Leeds fans and he may even get some stick for it but you have to let him go.”
Phillips has made five appearances for the Whites this season.
He has also played in the EFL Cup and scored in a 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.
