Leeds fans call for Monk to start summer recruit v Bristol City

By Will Butcher

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to urge Garry Monk to start Kemar Roofe against Bristol City in Tuesday night’s Championship clash at Elland Road.

Leeds’ promotion charge has fallen off the rails slightly in recent matches, with three losses in their last five league outings.

Monk has watched from the dugout as his side lost to Barnsley, Huddersfield and most recently Cardiff at Elland Road, ending a run of seven games without losing at home.

Summer signing Roofe has failed to start in the last two matches, which has seen Leeds fail to secure a single point and fans are keen to see him return to the side.

Leeds fans called on Twitter for Monk to start the former Oxford United ace, who cost £3million in the summer.

Some want him to start out wide, while others believe a revamp in Monk’s system is required, which could see Roofe play in the number 10 role or partner Chris Wood.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Since his move to Elland Road in the summer, Roofe has had a hand in nine goals. Scoring three against Wolves, Aston Villa and Preston, the 24-year-old has also provided six assists.

A win against Bristol City could be the spark needed to get Monk’s promotion chase back on track, which would see them leapfrog Reading into fourth if the Royals lose to Brentford.

In other Leeds news, Chris Wood has identified what the Whites must do to secure promotion this term.
