Leeds fans were left feeling down on social media after their disappointing defeat at the hands of Burton Albion – and not even the return of Charlie Taylor could lift their spirits.
Taylor returned to the starting XI after starting the previous four games on the bench and many fans pleased to see his name back on the team sheet.
The full-back was one of three changes boss Monk made to his side following their 1-0 defeat to Wolves, but the returning Souleymane Doukara and Ronaldo Vieira were unable to stop the Brewers from snatching victory.
The Elland Road side slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium which boosted Burton’s survival hopes but dented the play off hopes of Garry Monk’s side.
Marvin Sordell and Michael Kightly scored within two minutes of each other to give the home side a 2-0 lead and Kyle Bartley’s late goal was not enough to clinch any sort of result for Leeds.
Taylor is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer, with the club likely hoping to convince the 23-year-old to remain past the summer were they to qualify for the Premier League through the play-offs.
However, the result means Leeds find themselves one place and three points of the final play-off spot with just two games left to play, and fans took to social media after the game to concede the departure of Taylor.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Glad to see Charlie Taylor starting round peg in a round hole #lufc

Don't care about Premier League next season. I'm more gutted at the likelihood of losing Pontus, Bartley, Wood, Taylor and Monk. #lufc

Only player that we need to replace will be Charlie Taylor. Need to build on what we have and not sell our top players #lufc
