Leeds fans hail the most improved player in squad after win over Rotherham

By Alex Stevens

Kemar Roofe made a decisive contribution to Leeds’ 3-0 win over Rotherham on Monday – and fans took to Twitter to hail the most improved player in the squad.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder had a difficult start to his Elland Road career after a £3million move from Oxford in the summer.

He did not score his first Leeds goal until 22 October as he struggled to take his prolific form in League Two into the Championship.

But Roofe is now emerging as a key member of Garry Monk’s promotion chasing team and has been outstanding over the last month as the club have stepped up their bid to end their 13-year exile from the Premier League.

The former West Brom trainee was excellent in the second half against Rotherham after replacing Hadi Sacko on the right wing.

He created a string of chances and teed up Chris Wood for his second goal with a brilliant cross that delighted supporters.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds were unable to climb the Championship table on Monday evening due to wins for Reading and Huddersfield Town.

But Monk’s side remain well placed in fifth and, following defeat for second-placed Newcastle United, who lost 1-0 at Blackburn Rovers, they are now just seven points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

In other Leeds news, this senior player is transfer plan B for a Premier League club in the January window.
