Leeds United fans took to Twitter to lay into Caleb Ekuban for his performance in their team’s 2-0 Championship defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night.
The striker was selected as a lone spearhead of the attack as manager Paul Heckingbottom’s one change from the side that beat Bolton Wanderers on Good Friday was Samuel Saiz in place of Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
Ekuban spurned an excellent one-on-one chance when Leeds were a goal down and manager Paul Heckingbottom admitted afterwards that he needs to improve his finishing.
The Ghanian-born front man was replaced by Lasogga after 72 minutes, but Leeds were already 2-0 down at that point through goals from Kevin McDonald and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
United have dropped to 13th in the Championship table and are 10 points adrift of the final play-off spot, as they are almost certainly condemned to another campaign in the second tier.
Leeds supporters were extremely critical of Ekuban, who they feel lacks the quality to be the first-choice striker at a team with promotion ambitions.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Ekuban is not good enough. Why defend against truth?

Ekuban one of the worst players ever seen in a Leeds shirt another one to add to the list of shite Orta has signed #lufc

And this is the reason why our owners think its acceptable to sell a 30 goal a season striker for 5mi upfront and replace him who wont get more than 5 in a season, if your happy with ekuban then there is no hope #lufc https://t.co/xa3sbS2xKZ

I’d swap Pontus for Bartley any day and Ekuban for Stevie Wonder #lufc

If Ekuban is going to be a 20 goal a season #LUFC striker we need to widen the goals by 10ft. Oh and make them 10ft higher for Grot too….

Caleb Ekuban. Nice guy who clearly won a football contract in a box of cereal. #lufc

In other Leeds United transfer news, the club are working on a deal to sign an English centre-back who has been the best in the league this season.
