Leeds fans play key role in Daniel Farke sack decision – Top source

Leeds United fans are expected to play a key role in whether or not Daniel Farke faces the sack after a difficult start to the season.

This is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who also spent a period as Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the “volatile” Elland Road crowd can ramp up the pressure on the boss.

So far this season, Farke’s side have taken 16 points from nine games in the league, winning four, drawing four and losing just one, while they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Middlesbrough.

As things stand, they remain just three points away from Sunderland at the top of the table, but expectations are high after last year’s failure to achieve promotion.

Since the defeat to Southampton in last season’s playoff final, the expectations mounted on Farke and his team have been high, and many fans have already turned on the boss.

Brown has insisted that failure to be in and around the automatic promotion places in December could lead to the boss’ dismissal.

Despite what has been a largely positive start to the season, pressure on the manager’s position has been constant, with each failure to win leading to renewed calls for his head.

Leeds United fans to determine Daniel Farke sack decision

Football Insider revealed on 21 September that the Leeds board are not expected to rush into a decision on the manager’s future despite the growing pressure.

However, Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with managers at the top level including in senior scout roles at Tottenham, Sunderland, Man United, Blackburn and West Ham, has insisted that once the Elland Road crowd turn on Farke, the board could be pushed to make the call.

If they’re not in and around the promotion places by Christmas, he’ll be in trouble,” he told Football Insider.

That’s his job, the reason he was hired in the first place and his target will be to get them up.

If that’s not happening, then people will be asking questions.

It’s a vociferous crowd and fanbase at Elland Road. They don’t accept anything other than the absolute best at that club.

I’ve seen that over 30-odd years and while I was at United, they can be overly critical despite the deficiencies in their team.

Whoever the manager is, if they’re not performing, they’ll be under pressure.

The fans can be volatile, and if they turn on him, they could very easily influence the decision the board makes over his future.”
