Leeds fans rage at Ethan Ampadu as ‘atrocious’ footage v Southampton re-analysed
Leeds United fans have ripped into Ethan Ampadu after his error allowed Southampton to score the winning goal in the playoff final.
Ampadu, 23, stepped out of the defensive line to close down Will Smallbone but mistimed his challenge, allowing the ball through to Adam Armstrong who slotted home.
The goal came just 24 minutes into the game but proved to be the winner as Southampton held their nerve and defensive structure to seal out Leeds’ attackers.
It was playoff heartbreak again for Leeds and Daniel Farke, with Ampadu’s mistake proving to be game-changing, as fans have labelled him “atrocious”, “Sunday league” level and a “disaster”.

Ampadu had widely been considered one of the most impressive Leeds players this season since he arrived from Chelsea in the summer, but let his side down when it mattered most.
Fans could not believe what they had seen, slamming the Welshman for his decision in what was a shaky and disappointing game all around.
