Leeds United fans have been left raging on social media after it was revealed Felix Wiedwald was to start in the club’s Championship clash with Barnsley on Saturday.

The Whites confirmed their starting line up via their official Twitter account, revealing that manager Thomas Christiansen had chosen to make three changes from the side which were convincingly beaten 4-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.

Goalkeeper Wiedwald, midfielder Eunan O’Kane and striker Caleb Ekuban all come into the starting XI, in place of Andy Lonergan, the suspended Ronaldo Vieira and striker Kemar Roofe, who had started the last two games up front.

However it was the surprise change between the sticks, with Lonergan having started the club’s last seven league games, which brought the strongest response from the Leeds faithful, who evidently hold little faith in the German’s ability judging by their reaction on Twitter.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

A summer signing from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, Wiedwald had made a bright start to his career at Elland Road, keeping six clean sheets in his opening seven games, before a series of errors resulted in Christiansen swapping him out for former Wolves keeper Lonergan.

He has made a total of 13 appearances across all competitions for the Whites, 11 of which have come in the league.

In other Leeds United news, the club were handed a major blow after this 20-year-old was ruled out for the season.
