'Worth £50m easily' - Leeds fans rave about one player after demolition of Burton

By Harry Sykes

Pierre-Michel Lasogga marked a sensational Leeds United debut with two goals in a 5-0 demolition of Burton Albion – and fans took to Twitter to rave about their new hero.

Lasogga was pitched straight into the starting line-up as the team’s new spearhead after joining on a season-long loan from Hamburg on deadline day.

He responded with a 20th minute goal from the edge of the box to put his team 1-0 up and then added a second, and his side’s fifth of a memorable afternoon, with a header to complete the scoring.

It meant that summer departee Chris Wood, who joined Burnley for £15million, was quickly forgotten as fans hailed their new goal hero.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

On-loan Hamburg striker Lasogga scored only once in 20 Bundesliga games for his parent club last season.

But his performance suggested he may be an ideal replacement for Wood, who scored 30 goals in 48 games last season and topped the Championship goal charts with 27 strikes.

Leeds’ win lifted them to second in the Championship table, with a haul of 14 points out of a possible 18 from their six matches to date.

Manager Thomas Christiansen has overseen an eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions since taking the helm, including six victories.

In other Leeds United transfer news, a top-flight striker with an excellent goals record has revealed he wants to permanently move to Elland Road next year.
