Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has spoken out on his future at the Championship side, revealing that he expects to be at Elland Road next season – but fans aren’t buying it.
The 27-year-old Swede signed a five-year contract at the club just before Christmas until 2022, as the club made moves to ensure they kept hold of one of their prized stars.
But speaking ahead of the visit of Sunderland to Ellan Road on Saturday, Jansson admitted that it was a dream of his to play in the Premier League, but that he wanted to do that with the Whites.
That was seemingly not enough to reassure the Leeds faithful who still think the player will be on his way out in the summer.
The centre-back has not hidden his disappointment at the Yorkshire outfit’s lack of progression this season and previously described their recent form in the Championship as “ridiculous.”
As quoted in the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Swedish centre-back said when asked whether he would be at the club next season: “For sure. I signed a five-year deal and I said it since the first day here: this club changed my life and changed my football career.
“Of course I feel frustrated, of course I want to speak to people in this club about what the goals are. I said I had a dream to play in the Premier League but I also said that the dream for me is playing with Leeds.”
Leeds have won just twice since the turn of the new year, which led to Paul Heckingbottom taking command of affairs after Thomas Christiansen was shown the exit door.
But the change at the top appears to have had little to no effect on results.
And after the player’s comments, the Whites faithful took to Twitter to have their say on Jansson and here is a selection of responses to the Swede:
that means hes going

Wood said exactly the same thing. Money talks and players shouldn’t talk so much shit. There’s no way he’d turn down a premier league team and more than double his wages. We wouldn’t be able to stop him either. Remember this tweet from today
