Leeds and Middlesbrough fans react to shattering Gestede blow
By Harry Sykes
Middlesbrough and Leeds fans have reacted with a mixture of alarm and relief on Twitter after it emerged that Rudy Gestede will be out for three months.
Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier today (Wednesday) that the giant striker will undergo surgery on his leg after breaking down in Boro’s goalless draw with Preston North End just prior to the international break.
Gestede, 28, is not expected back until December in what is a hammer blow to Garry Monk, who quit Leeds to take over at Boro during the summer.
Coincidentally, Gestede was a strong target for United during the summer transfer window, with the north-east club rejecting Leeds’ £5.5million bid for the Benin international last month.
Supporters of both clubs took to social media this evening to give their verdicts on the shattering blow to Gestede, with Leeds fans claiming their club had dodged a bullet and the Boro faithful alarmed at the possibility of losing a key first-teamer.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Gestede joined Boro in January from Aston Villa and had struggled to make a major impact in front of goal, with his 26 appearances yielding three goals.
But his strength and aerial power has prompted Monk to use him as a foil for big-money summer signing Britt Assombalonga in the opening matches of the games.
In other Leeds United news, the club have secured an out of window striker signing after agreeing the terms of a deal.
