Paul Heckingbottom has revealed that three Leeds United youth team players are in line for senior-side promotion – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.

United have slipped to 13th in the Championship table to end their play-off hopes following a wretched run of results since the turn of the year.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom named youth teamers Sam Dalby, 18, and Paudie O’Connor, 20, in the travelling party for Tuesday night’s defeat at Fulham, although they did not make the matchday squad,

He said in the aftermath of the 2-0 loss at Craven Cottage, as quoted on the personal Twitter account of Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope, that striker Dalby, centre-back O’Connor and wide forward Jack Clarke, 17, could be promoted from the Under-23s to the first team before the end of the season.

A section of Leeds fans on Twitter are fed up with many of the senior players and are eager for youth to be given its head.
