‘Absolute steal’ – Fans react as Leeds ramp up pursuit of in-demand defender

Leeds United are in hot pursuit of Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan – and fans delivered mixed views on the possibility of him moving to Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed earlier on Monday that the Yorkshire giants have ramped up their interest in the player regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Championship.

A City source has told Football Insider that the club have rejected several enquiries for Bryan already this summer with manager Lee Johnson keen to keep hold of his best players ahead of the new EFL season starting this weekend.

Many Leeds fans have urged the club to push hard to prise the 23-year-old from the Championship minnows before the transfer window shuts next month.

Intriguingly, one City fan described Bryan as twice the player as Luke Ayling, who United signed from the Bristol club last season.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds are in the market for a new left-back following Charlie Taylor’s departure to Burnley earlier this month.

As things currently stand, Gaetano Berardi, a right-back by trade, is in line to start Sunday’s Championship opener away to Bolton Wanderers.

In other Leeds transfer news, a left-back has headed to Elland Road as he aims to secure a permanent transfer from top-flight club.
