Leeds fans react to Jay-Ray Grot cameo against Nottingham Forest

By Harry Sykes

New Leeds United signing Jay-Ray Grot made his debut in their 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening – and fans on Twitter were blown away by his pace and power.

Grot arrived at Elland Road on Thursday after signing from Dutch club NEC for an initial £750,000 in a deal that could rise to £1.5million.

He was not deemed ready for the starting XI despite the sale of Chris Wood to Burnley this week and the absence through injury of another summer striker signing Caleb Ekuban.

Manager Thomas Christiansen opted to deploy attacking midfielder Kemar Roofe as the line leader and he responded with Leeds’ opening goal after 24 minutes.

Ezgjan Alioski added a second three minutes from time with a thumping strike as Leeds secured their third win from three away matches this season.

Grot was introduced to the action after 70 minutes as a replacement for Pablo Hernandez.

Supporters raved about the size and physicality of the new forward, who is only 19.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds’ win lifted them to third in the Championship table, with a haul of 11 points out of a possible 15 from their five matches to date.

In other Leeds United news, an £8million bid has been rejected for a Championship goal machine wanted by the club.
