Leeds fans react to major injury scare after key man forced off against Reading
By Alex Stevens
Chris Wood was taken off injured after 33 minutes of Leeds’ Championship clash against Reading on Tuesday – and fans on Twitter are praying it is not a serious problem.
Wood scored his 14th goal of the season, 11 of which have come in the league, on Tuesday as he latched on to a deflected cross from Hadi Sacko after 19 minutes to break the deadlock at Elland Road.
But 14 minutes later he was withdrawn from the action after going down injured during a Leeds attack and failing to respond to a spell of treatment.
Leeds were 1-0 ahead at half-time of the league showdown against Jaap Stam’s high flying visitors to give hope they can further cement their place in the play-off positions.
But supporters were concerned about losing Wood for a length of time after he demonstrated his value to the team in the first half of the season with a series of poacher’s strikes.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Wood has emerged as one of Leeds’ key players in their bid to secure an against-the-odds place in the Premier League next season.
The New Zealand international is the only member of Monk’s squad who has scored more than two league goals in the 2016-17 campaign.
In other Leeds news, these are the first two signings that incoming new owner Andrea Radrizzani will make in the January transfer window.
