'Unreal signing', 'Makes me sad' - Leeds fans react as PL giants in reported hunt to sign ex-star

By Richard Parks
Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to react with pride and frustration that Liverpool are in the hunt to sign their academy product Lewis Cook for £20million this summer.

The Sun claim manager Jurgen Klopp has identified Cook as a potential replacement for Emre Can this summer and scouts from the Premier League giants have been closely monitoring him during his two seasons at Bournemouth.

Can’s contract is due to expire at the end of the current season and he is poised to join Italian giant Juventus on a free transfer.

The Sun report that Liverpool have tracked Cook since he left boyhood club Leeds in the summer of 2016 to move to the Cherries for an initial fee of around £6million.
The England youngster had a difficult debut campaign in which an ankle injury restricted his progress but he has blossomed under Eddie Howe this season and has been a mainstay for the team that looks well placed to avoid the tight relegation battle at the bottom of the Premier League.
The Elland Road academy product made 85 appearances for Leeds after making his debut aged 17 and he was regarded as the team’s outstanding player before his exit.
Fans of the Yorkshire giants are in no doubt about Cook’s calibre, dubbing him a “great player” who would be an “unreal signing” for Liverpool but are frustrated that he is no longer at Leeds.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

In other Leeds United news, the club have agreed the terms of an £8.5million deal, with the first payment scheduled for the summer.
