‘Biggest coup in EFL history’ – Leeds fans react to latest transfer speculation

Leeds United are in the race to sign Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo – and fans have claimed on Twitter he would be a sensational signing.

The Mirror claim the Yorkshire giants are are ready to meet the £6.4million asking price for the Spain international, who is also willing to hold talks with the club.

It is said top-flight club Swansea are also pushing had to sign Negredo, who has had two previous spells in English football at Manchester City and Middlesbrough.

The Leeds link is a surprise given the costs involved, with the the Telegraph previously reporting he is on £100,000-a-week at Valencia, a salary that was paid in its entirety during his loan at the Riverside Stadium last season.

The Elland Road faithful are not getting carried away by the reports, although some dared to dream and claimed he would be a huge coup capable of spearheading them to the league title.

Negredo, who has two more years to run on his Valencia contract, has an impressive track record both in Spanish and English football.

He scored 23 goals in 49 matches during his season at City in 2013-14 and has netted 111 times in 264 La Liga appearances.

In 21 Spain internationals, he has also struck 10 times.
