Souleymane Doukara spearheaded the Leeds attack in their 1-0 Championship win against Brentford on Saturday – and fans criticised him on Twitter for his poor finishing.

The Senegalese striker was selected in the centre-forward role after leading scorer Chris Wood failed in his bid to recover from a hamstring injury.

Doukara had a golden chance to break the deadlock in the middle of the second half when he was sent through on goal by a stunning outside-of-the-boot Stuart Dallas pass.

But the 25-year-old failed to grasp his one-on-one chance and sent his shot wide of the goal with his right foot.

Kyle Bartley later scored the game’s only goal when he read a late corner and battered home a header from close range.

But Leeds fans were bitterly disappointed at the failure of Doukara to hit the target and took to social media to claim he was not up to scratch and the club must buy a new striker in January.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds’ seventh win in nine league games lifts Garry Monk’s side to fourth in the Championship and to a tally of 38 points from their 22 matches this season.

The Yorkshire giants are 11 points adrift of leaders Newcastle, who beat Burton 2-1 on Saturday to lift their points haul to 49.

In other Leeds news, these are the first two signings that incoming new owner Andrea Radrizzani will make in the January transfer window.
