'Just heartbreaking', 'Full blown breakdown' - Leeds fans react to 21-yr-old's latest display
By Richard Parks
Leeds United fans reacted with a mixture of pride and anger at Lewis Cook’s England debut on Tuesday night.
The Elland Road academy product was given his first international cap in the national side’s 1-1 draw against Italy at Wembley.
Cook, 21, was brought off the substitute bench after 71 minutes by manager Gareth Southgate as a replacement for Jesse Lingard in a match in which Lorenzo Insigne’s late penalty cancelled out Jamie Vardy’s goal.
Cook has earned international recognition after his impressive displays this season for Bournemouth, where he has established himself as a key player in central midfield.
The youngster joined the Cherries in the summer of 2016 for a fee of around £6million after making 85 appearances for Leeds, where he had nailed down a regular starting role at the age of 17.

Those saying Cook left off his own back could not be further from the truth…
Also, give me one good reason why would he want to be at #LUFC right now?

Why can’t people just be happy with Cook playing today instead of using it to try and sharpen old rusty pitchforks. #lufc

So immensely proud of Lewis Cook making his England debut. He’s come a long way since making his debut for Leeds a few years back #lufc

I’m bitter about Lewis Cook. Great achievement for him and his family but for me, watching him come on for England is a kick in the balls. A reminder of just how desperately pathetic, unambitious, downtrodden and screwed over #LUFC has been for over a decade. Just heartbreaking.

Me and many #lufc fans have been saying for a long time that Lewis Cook would play international football. It’s sad that he’s no longer a Leeds player when that happened, but absolutely delighted for him either way.
