Leeds fans react on Twitter to first Monk league win after claims he is fighting for his job

By Amir Mir

Leeds supporters on Twitter were delighted for manager Garry Monk after he won his first league match as the club’s manager.

The Whites defied the odds by beating arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon to give lift-off to their Championship campaign.

Marcus Antonsson and Chris Wood punished their opponents with two counter-attack strikes to seal the club a much-needed victory.

Monk has come under increasing pressure following a dismal start to the campaign which included two losses, a last-gasp draw to Fulham and a penalty shootout win against League One minnows Fleetwood.

There were reports on Thursday that controversial owner Massimo Cellino was losing faith in Monk and was already ready to pull the trigger on his reign.

That prompted a deluge of complaints from supporters, who were pleased that the ex-Swansea manager has now been given some breathing space in a big performance for the former Premier League manager.

Here is a selection of Leeds supporters showing their faith in Monk:
