Leeds fans react on Twitter to referee appointment against Barnsley

Mike Dean will referee Leeds’ trio to Barnsley on Saturday according to a reliable journalist – and the club’s supporters were furious with the decision on Twitter.

Press Association editor Wayne Gardiner has claimed Dean will officiate the Yorkshire derby and will drop down to the Championship instead of his usual Premier League duties.

The referee has been involved in some controversial decisions this season, including sending off West Ham’s Sofiane Feghouli on January 2, something that was later rescinded.

Leeds fan have voiced their concern that Dean will take charge of Saturday’s game at Oakwell.

Leeds face an important fixture in the Championship and are currently chasing an automatic spot.

The Whites are third-placed in the league table and are comfortably inside the play-off places, but will want to close the six-point gap to Brighton in second.

Garry Monk’s side produced arguably their performance of the season in their last game as they beat Derby 1-0 at Elland Road and the scoreline didn’t reflect their dominance in the match.

Leeds are undefeated in their last seven games across all competitions and are the in-form team in the Championship.

Dean will be hoping for a clean affair in Leeds’ match and will want to stay out of the headlines.
