’35 goals next season’ – Leeds fans react on Twitter to Wood international display

By Derek Smithson

Chris Wood continued his goalscoring form by netting for New Zealand in the Confederations Cup – and Leeds fans took to Twitter to rave about his quality.

The 25-year-old forward opened the scoring for the Kiwis in the Group A clash against Mexico, but ended up on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat.

New Zealand have now lost their opening two group matches and their final game of the tournament will come against Portugal on Saturday, who have Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad.

Wood struck his 20th international goal against Mexico and that was just his 50th cap for his nation.

Leeds fans were highly impressed by the performance of their striker and one suggested that he could reach 35 goals next season.

Wood has managed to continue his impressive form into the summer after starring at Elland Road last season.

The target man led the line superbly for Leeds last year and that helped him win the Championship golden boot.

He scored 30 goals in just 48 appearances across all competitions, with 27 of them coming in the league.

Wood was the talisman under former manager Garry Monk and the Leeds supporters are hopeful he can play a similar role under new boss Thomas Christiansen.
