Kemar Roofe will undergo a scan on his injured rib on Monday – and fans are fearful he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay took to Twitter to reveal on Monday morning that Roofe is waiting to find out the extent of the injury that kept him out of his side’s defeat to Huddersfield on Sunday.

Hay reported on his personal Twitter account that Leeds manager Garry Monk will be “crossing his fingers that it isn’t serious”.

Fans are concerned at the possibility of such an improved player spending time on the injury list.

It was claimed the attacking midfielder was sorely missed on Sunday as the team slumped to a 2-1 defeat against their Yorkshire rivals at the John Smiths Stadium.

Other were critical of the lack of quality cover in Monk’s squad, while one supporterspointed out that Leeds players who have seemingly suffered minor injuries this season often end up facing extended spells on the sidelines.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Roofe struggled to adapt in his first few months at Leeds following a £3million transfer from League One club Oxford.

But he has become increasingly influential either side of the new year and his 35 appearances in all competitions this season have now yielded three goals and six assists.

Monk’s side are still on course to reach the play-offs despite the defeat to Huddersfield, which means they slip one position in the table to fifth.

Leeds are eight points clear of Norwich in seventh position and have a chance to pull back the top four when they host Cardiff at Elland Road on Saturday.
