Leeds United are set to offer Tom Pearce a new deal with the club as the 20-year-old is out of contract with the Yorkshire outfit this summer, according to manager Paul Heckingbottom.

And it’s news that has been greeted with delight by supporters.

The youngster has only recently made the step up into the first team from the highly-regarded U23s side, making three appearances from the right-back spot and has quickly become a favourite amongst supporters.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, not only did the Whites boss answer questions surrounding his own future but on Pearce’s contract situation which as yet remained unsigned and said as quoted on Phil Hay’s Twitter feed: “Tom Pearce out of contract this summer. Heckingbottom indicated that he’s being offered a new deal. Nothing signed yet. #lufc.”

After scoring in the club’s 2-1 win against Barnsley at the weekend it highlighted that the protege’s deal was due to expire at the end of the season.

It’s the second bit of a good news for the Championship outfit, after the Myanmar debacle, after only earlier they revealed that winger Pablo Hernandez would be extending his stay in Yorkshire by signing a further two-year deal.

Leeds will be hoping they can take Thursday’s positivity into the weekend when they face Norwich City in the Championship at Carrow Road.
