Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at a report that Victor Orta is almost certain to quit the club this summer and return to his native Spain.

Spanish publication El Periodico claim that it is “almost a given” that the United director of football is to leave Elland Road after one difficult season.

It is said that Orta is in contention to take over as director of football at La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna, who have been without a recruitment chief since Richard Barral left the post in January.

El Periodico report that Orta is on a shortlist of candidates for the vacant role, although the options open to Deportivo would be reduced if they are relegated from La Liga, with the club currently placed 18th in the table and seven points adrift of Levante in 17th position.

Orta was appointed by owner Andrea Radrizzani days after it was confirmed last May that the Italian businessman had taken sole control of the club.

He has overseen a whirlwind of arrivals, and also some controversial exits, in the last two transfer windows but Leeds have plummeted down the table from seventh last season to 14th in the current campaign.

Leeds fans are bouncing off the walls at the prospect of the departure of the unpopular Spaniard, with one claiming “please just take him away”.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

In other Leeds United news, it can be revealed that Andrea Radrizzani is ready to end the careers of 13 senior players at the club in a jawdropping cull.
