Leeds fans react on Twitter to Milner display against Manchester United

By Alex Stevens

James Milner scored the opening goal in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United – and Leeds fans hailed the player as one of their own.

The Elland Road academy graduate kept a cool head under pressure to slot away Liverpool’s goal with a penalty beyond the grasp of David de Gea.

It was Milner’s sixth goal of the season, all of which have come from the penalty spot, as he provided further evidence of his importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Leeds fans reacted with delight at Milner breaking the deadlock in such a big match and against United, one of the club’s historic rivals.

Boyhood Leeds fan Milner graduated from the club’s academy to make his first-team debut at the age of 16 and became the then youngest scorer in the Premier League at the same ago.

But he only spent two years at the club as Leeds’ financial problems forced them to cash in on him in 2004 following their relegation from the Premier League and he joined Newcastle.

Liverpool climbed back into third in the league after securing a point at Old Trafford, although they are seven points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
