Leeds fans react angrily on Twitter to Monk substitutions against Wigan
By Alex Stevens
Leeds fans reacted angrily on Twitter to Garry Monk’s use of substitutes in the 1-1 draw against Wigan on Tuesday night.
The Elland Road manager took off attacking trio Chris Wood, Hadi Sacko and Pablo Hernandez when his team were a goal ahead.
But Leeds were unable to hold out for a win as Shaun MacDonald grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser, which meant that Monk’s side remain in 13th in the Championship table.
Sacko and Wood had earlier combined for Leeds’ 29th minute goal, with the on-loan Sporting Lisbon winger crossing for the striker to score for the eighth time in the league this season.
Fans took to social media to lambast Monk for replacing Sacko with Matt Grimes after 66 minutes, Hernandez with Alex Mowatt after 74 and Wood with Marcus Antonsson with five minutes remaining.

Sacko sub off,? no complaints he looked shattered. Grimes on? Not for me. Wood sub off? Unless 100% injured, poor decision for me. #lufc

Sacko best have come off injured, because if that was a tactical sub then I’m baffled #lufc

As soon as Sacko came off last night, Warnock was able to get forward and threaten. Poor move from Monk IMO #lufc

Monk blaming the players? How about look at your substitutions! You cost us that game Warnock was doing cartwheels when Sacko went off #lufc

Poor subs from Monk tonight. Roofe was struggling in the last 15 & left him on. Why take Wood & Sacko off ??? #lufc

Poor substitutions tonight – Sacko playing well, Wood playing well – lost some height at set plays #lufc
