Leeds fans delighted on Twitter after Norwich result

By Danny Wright

Leeds fans are delighted on Twitter after Norwich drew 1-1 with Ipswich on Sunday to remain well adrift in the play-off race.

Norwich are one of the main threat to Leeds’ ambitions of securing a top-six finish and their failure to take three points  means that Garry Monk’s side remain eight points clear of seventh-placed Fulham.

A win for the Canaries could have closed that gap, but with Chris Wood scoring the only goal in a vital Yorkshire derby win on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, Monk’s team can now focus on mounting a challenge for an automatic promotion spot.

The result could have been even better for Leeds as Ipswich took the lead in the East Anglia derby when Jonas Knudsen scored in the 63rd minute.

However it didn’t take long for the hosts to find an equaliser when Jacob Murphy scored six minutes later.

Supporters of Leeds will now be keeping a keen eye on some crucial fixtures in coming weeks which include Newcastle playing Brighton, Huddersfield and Reading – meaning that on three occasions at least one of their rivals will be dropping points.

Monk’s side are currently nine points behind second place, but with their next fixtures against Birmingham, Fulham and QPR that could easily be reduced.

Norwich moved up to eighth place with the point but have played one game less than Fulham, who sit between them and the play-off places.

The Canaries are six points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the last play-off place, after their lost at Elland Road.
