Middlesbrough striker David Nugent is reportedly moving to Derby after reports stated Leeds were interested, but Whites fans on Twitter have greeted the news.

The Sun claimed in December that the 31-year-old was a target of many Championship sides, but he was looking to move to the Yorkshire giants.

However, the Sun have since reported on Sunday that second tier rivals Derby were closing in on a £3million deal for the one-time capped England international.

The reported fee has seen many Leeds fans on social media greet the fact that they are not signing the experienced player, with the supporters keen to see a younger purchase.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

If Nugent does make the move to Pride Park then he could line-up against Leeds as early as Friday with the Yorkshire giants set to host the Rams at Elland Road.

There is little between the two clubs in the Championship currently with five points separating Garry Monk’s team in fifth and Steve McClaren’s in seventh.

This was also proven when the sides last faced each other in October with a goal from Johnny Russell proving decisive in the 1-0 victory for Derby.

In other Leeds news, a BBC journalist has hailed the club’s new arrival.
