Leeds fans: Referee Rob Jones ‘must be sacked’ as ‘shocking’ footage analysed

Leeds United fans are calling for referee Rob Jones to be “sacked” following his performance during their Championship clash with Portsmouth.

Daniel Farke’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat at Fratton Park following a second-half strike from Colby Bishop, putting a dent in their title aspirations.

However, the game was marred by a questionable refereeing performance from Jones following a number of controversial decisions.

Leeds had a penalty claim waved away in the first half for what replays showed was a clear foul on Daniel James, before a late challenge on Illan Meslier went unpunished.

In a clip which was quickly shared to social media, the challenge was late and the Portsmouth man led with his studs, but avoided a yellow card amid claims it could have been a red.

As a result, much of the travelling Leeds supporters’ frustration was aimed towards the officials rather than what was a poor performance from Farke’s team.

Daniel Farke’s transfer plans dented by Portsmouth defeat

Leeds are aiming to finally secure promotion from the Championship this season and are top of the league as things stand.

As a result, they have been putting plans in place for the summer transfer window as they are plotting an ambitious move to bring Tammy Abraham to Leeds.

However, the defeat to Portsmouth has put a significant dent in their ambitions as they are now level on points with second-placed Sheffield United and just two above Burnley.

They remain the favourites to secure automatic promotion after a 17-game unbeaten run prior to today’s result, but will be keen to ensure complacency doesn’t creep in after recent disappointments.

Despite the frustrations surrounding the display against Portsmouth, with the likes of Meslier and Piroe heavily criticised, the referee has taken plenty of stick.

Inconsistent decisions have been seemingly constant this season with questions asked of the officials’ performances and growing anger among fans.

Now, Leeds supporters have taken to social media to express their frustrations towards Jones, labelling him “shocking” and “a disgrace” amid calls for his sack.
