Leeds fans stunned by Ao Tanaka as full stats emerge
Leeds United fans were impressed by Ao Tanaka’s performance during their 2-0 win against Sheffield United on Friday (18 October).
The Whites came out on top after second-half goals from Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph which saw them overtake the Blades and move into third in the Championship.
Tanaka played the full 90 minutes alongside Joe Rothwell in the heart of the midfield, and the 26-year-old was awarded the Player of the Match for his performance.
The Japan international made 67 passes throughout the game and created one goal-scoring opportunity despite being a defensive midfielder.
Tanaka had 89 touches and won four duels throughout the game as he helped break up play in the middle of the pitch.
The midfielder also made seven recoveries and two clearances as he played a role in Illan Meslier keeping a clean sheet.
Leeds United supporters have been wowed by Ao Tanaka
Tanaka has been thrust into the starting lineup in recent weeks due to injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev which will keep them out of action until next season.
However, Leeds fans have been impressed by Tanaka’s performances since he was brought into the team.
