Leeds fans urge Monk to axe 25-year-old against Reading

By Alex Stevens

Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to urge Garry Monk to axe Liam Cooper for Saturday’s Championship clash against Reading.

Monk will be tempted to stick with the team that played so impressively in the 2-0 win against Brighton before the international break.

Pontus Jansson was a shock omission from the side a fortnight ago in what was widely interpreted as a show of strength from the manager.

He was replaced by Cooper, 25, as Monk took the surprise decision to break up the centre-back partnership of Jansson and Kyle Bartley that has been the foundation of the Leeds’ promotion charge.

Supporters offered the virtually unanimous verdict in the build-up to Saturday evening’s televised clash that Swedish centre-back Jansson should be recalled at the Madejski Stadium.

Jansson has been a mainstay of the Leeds team since joining initially on a season-long loan from Italian club Torino last summer.

Such has been the 26-year-old’s impact that he has agreed a permanent transfer that will come into effect at the end of the season.

In other Leeds transfer news, the club have sealed an out-of-window midfielder transfer.
