Leeds fans urge Monk to start goal-shy attacker against Aston Villa

By Alex Stevens

Leeds fans have urged manager Garry Monk to start Kemar Roofe in attacking midfield against Aston Villa in the Championship on Saturday evening.

United supporters have taken to their personal Twitter accounts to back the summer signing even though he has not scored in 22 games since joining from Oxford.

Roofe has showed glimpses of improved form in the last two matches against Liverpool and Rotherham after being handed a central playmaker role in the absence of the injured Pablo Hernandez.

The 23-year-old was unfortunate not to break his Leeds duck in Tuesday’s League Cup defeat at Anfield when he was denied what would have been a sensational long-range goal only by the post.

Nevertheless, fans have been impressed by what they have seen from Roofe and urged Monk to hand him a key attacking slot against Villa at Elland Road.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Leeds take on Villa aiming to secure their fifth win in six Championship matches and maintain the excellent sequence of results that have lifted them to fifth in the table.

Garry Monk’s side can narrow the gap on leaders Newcastle, who lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest on Friday night, to eight points if they can defeat Steve Bruce’s in-form side.

In other Leeds team news, an England international is close to signing for the club.
