Leeds fans urge Monk to recall 26-year-old to starting XI

By Dominic Toner

Leeds face a crucial game against Burton on Saturday – and the club’s supporters have urged Garry Monk to recall Eunan O’Kane to the starting line-up.

The Whites are currently seventh in the Championship and are out of the play-off spots on goal difference.

They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolves in their last game and now have three fixtures remaining to book their spot in the end of season play-offs.

Leeds midfielder O’Kane has endured spells in and out of the team this campaign, but has been an unused substitute in the last five matches.

The 26-year-old has made 24 appearances across all competitions and found himself behind the likes of Liam Bridcutt, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips in the pecking order.

Leeds fans have rallied on social media to demand that O’Kane is given a starting role against Burton.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

O’Kane has shown that he can be a controlling figure in the centre of the park and looks a solid central midfielder.

However, the Whites will be hoping that teenager Vieira recovers from illness to be available for Burton and he will also be pushing for a starting role.

Monk started with Bridcutt and Phillips in the loss against Wolves, when they were completely outplayed in the opening 45 minutes.

The Yorkshire giants have been in the top six for the majority of the campaign and it would heartache if they were not to miss out on the play-offs.
