Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to express their concern about the performances of Samuel Saiz.

The Spanish playmaker was widely hailed as one of the few impressive summer-of-2017 signings of director of football Victor Orta for most of this campaign.

But his performance levels have dropped markedly in the second half of the season, which coincides with the spitting incident against Newport County in early January that led to a six-match suspension.

Saiz, 26, has supplied just two assists in eight matches since the ban and has not scored since the end end of November.

The playmaker had another unproductive afternoon on Saturday as Leeds drew 1-1 at Elland Road against relegation strugglers Sunderland.

Leeds supporters on social media were unimpressed with Saiz’s contribution and some are starting to question the effectiveness of a player who scored a hat-trick on debut and was such a popular figure in the first half of the season.

One claimed Saiz reminded him of Honduran attacking midfielder Ramon Nunez, who flattered to deceive during a spell at Leeds earlier in the decade.
