Leeds ‘guaranteed’ to agree top January signing – pundit

Leeds United will need to do everything they can to keep key players fit but are still “guaranteed” to secure a top January signing.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Scotland international Frank McAvennie believes the West Yorkshire club have a good starting eleven but beyond that, they lack the quality needed to challenge for the Championship title.

Leeds had their squad picked apart following their 1-0 play-off final defeat to Southampton, with star players Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, and Georginio Rutter all earning big-money Premier League moves.

A late splurge saw Daniel Farke add four new players in the last week of the transfer window, but they still have the smallest first-team squad in the Championship with 23 players.

Farke’s side remain unbeaten in the Championship so far this season with two wins and two draws in their opening four games of the season.

New signing Manor Solomon left the Elland Road faithful stunned with his debut performance in their 2-0 victory over fellow Yorkshire side Hull City.

“They’ve got a good 11, 12, 13 players”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“When you go outside that if people get injured, at the moment, everyone is happy everyone is playing and they all want to get back to the Premier League.

“That’s great if they can keep these players fit, if you can stop them from getting injured.

“The manager is a clever guy, he’ll have everyone working and the boys that come in will just have to do a job until January.

“I guarantee they’ll buy someone in January.

“But yeah, I’ve got a soft spot for them so I want them to go up, but that won’t happen without getting beat that’s for certain.

“They’re doing alright at the moment, they’ll be taking it cautiously, one game at a time, the usual football nonsense.”
