Leeds have ‘big concern’ after embarrassing Firpo information emerges – Phillips

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo “has not settled” into the Premier League, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 25-year-old was one of several “poor performances” at Manchester City.

Firpo struggled on Tuesday night as Leeds were thrashed 7-0 at the Etihad.

The Whites signed Firpo from Barcelona in a £13million deal last July.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Firpo’s form, Phillips said: “Last season every player performed.

“That certainly hasn’t been the case this season. There was a lot of poor performances last night.

“Firpo doesn’t look like he has settled yet. Maybe it will take him a while to get to grips with the Premier League.

“It is a big concern because Leeds are hovering above the relegation places. It is going to be a tough season for them given the injuries they have got.

“They need players like Firpo to step up and start producing performances. They need to be harder to beat and then take it from there.”

Firpo has made 14 appearances across all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season.

He put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Elland Road in the summer.
