Leeds hit by ‘hurdle’ in race to sign Harry Wilson

Leeds United could be set to miss out on a deal for Fulham star Harry Wilson as rival clubs have now joined the race for his signature.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Wilson‘s contract situation and performances have placed clubs on alert.

The 28-year-old has just six months remaining on his contract at Fulham, and has a combined ten goals and assists in 19 Premier League appearances this term.

Wilson scored as Fulham drew 2-2 with Liverpool last time out, and has established himself as an important part of Marco Silva’s plans.

That is despite almost leaving Fulham in the summer, when a Wilson’s deadline day move to Leeds fell through, and the Peacocks now look likely to miss out once again.

Leeds could miss out on Harry Wilson amid rival interest

Brown told Football Insider on 10 December that Fulham are bracing for interest in Wilson, both in the January transfer window and nearing the expiry of his contract.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that a number of Premier League clubs are now interested in luring him away from Craven Cottage.

Harry Wilson is attracting a lot of interest,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s not just Leeds in for him any more, he’s showing this season what he can do when he’s at his best, and that’s alerted a lot of clubs to his situation.

“I expect Leeds are still interested, but it will be more difficult now because of the rival clubs.

“Fulham want to keep hold of him as well, so they’ve got that going on in the background.

“Any team in the Premier League who are struggling on the right-hand side would benefit from having Harry Wilson in this kind of form.

“If he’s not going to sign a new contract at Fulham, there are a few clubs I could think of who will be looking to tempt him away.”

Wilson contract update emigrees at Fulham

Football Insider revealed in September that Fulham want Wilson to sign a new contract, but little progress has been made, leading to concerns he could leave.

Leeds came close to signing Wilson in the summer transfer window, but missed out when Fulham pulled the plug on a late move given their own transfer struggles.

However, the more time passes without the Wales international putting pen to paper on a new deal, the more Fulham’s fears over his future grow.

Brown told Football Insider in September that Fulham are happy to keep Wilson at Craven Cottage after he missed out on a deadline day move to Leeds.

However, the January window would be their last chance to raise funds from his departure, while his stock is currently high as a result of his recent performances.
