Leeds hit by huge first-teamer blow - report

By Harry Sykes

Leeds United forward Caleb Ekuban is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he prepares to undergo foot surgery, according to a report.

Ghana Soccernet claim the 23-year-old Ghanaian will go under the knife after suffering an injury on his full league debut for the Championship promotion hopefuls.

It is said that Ekuban, 23, will spend a “considerable amount of time” on the sidelines while he recovers from the operation.

The summer signing broke down two-thirds of the way into Leeds’ 2-0 win at Sunderland 10 days ago after clashing with an opposition defender.

He has subsequently missed the team’s League Cup demolition of Newport County and memorable Championship win at Nottingham Forest.

Italian-born Ekuban joined from Chievo earlier in the window and made a promising start to his Leeds career with a goal on his debut in a 4-1 League Cup win against Port Vale.

Chris Wood’s sale to Burnley paved the way for a more central role but Ekuban’s injury comes at a time when the club are working furiously to sign new forward talent despite landing Dutch 19-year-old Jay-Ray Grot last week.

In other Leeds United team news, the club have one striker deal in the big just days before the window shuts and are also closing in on another big-name signing.
