Leeds key man suffers hamstring injury in win over Reading
By Alex Stevens
Chris Wood suffered a hamstring injury in Leeds’ 2-0 Championship win over Reading on Tuesday night.
The Yorkshire giants’ leading scorer will be assessed over the next 24 hours as the club face an anxious wait to discover the severity of the injury.
Manager Garry Monk revealed the latest on Wood in the immediate aftermath of triumph against the Berkshire club.
Wood was taken off injured after 33 minutes of the match, although not before he had put his side 1-0 up with his 11th league goal of the season and 14th in all competitions from 25 matches.
The New Zealand international fired home a deflected cross from Hadi Sacko after 19 minutes to break the deadlock at Elland Road but he was withdrawn from the fray 14 minutes later.
Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay provided an update on Wood’s condition on his personal Twitter account, reporting Monk as saying that the striker had a “tight hamstring” but was “hopeful it isn’t serious”.
An injury to key man Wood could force Monk to delve into the January transfer market for striker cover.
Leeds’ only other senior options up front are Souleymane Doukara, whose late penalty sealed the three points against Reading, and Marcus Antonsson, who missed the match with a back injury.
In other Leeds news, these are the first two signings that incoming new owner Andrea Radrizzani will make in the January transfer window.
